06/24/2022The Day of the African Child is a special commemoration of the ongoing struggle for inclusion, justice and ensuring the uninterrupted growth and development of children in our continent. NAQEZ hosted a webinar to address and inform the nation on the harmful social and cultural practices in Zambia and Africa. This was timely as it resonated with the theme of the year: Eliminating harmful practices affecting children: Progress on Policy and Practice since 2013. The panelists included Honest Mutesha – officer from Chibombo Child Development Agency – CCDA, Peter Kalenga – Media director NAQEZ and Tapiwa Lukuta – Human Rights Defender. It was during this electrifying and heated discussion that it was noted that there was need for governments to take stock of the progress made towards ensuring that policies that protect children are drafted and developed to protect a child. This is important because most African countries have cultural practices that affect children such as forced child marriages and child labour.
