Advocating for Introducing Cutting-Edge Science Literacy for ECE And Primary Schools

On the 22nd of January 2023,NAQEZ convened Directors and Assistant Directors from the Ministry of Education Headquarters, Provincial Education Officers, District Education Board Secretaries, and selected head teachers from all ten provinces of Zambia, Principals of Teacher training colleges, teachers unions and subject associations for a two day conference to specifically raise the need for including scientific literacy in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Primary Schools. The goals of this conference were to develop a common understanding on the status of the foundational learning in Zambia, and for the National Science Centre to introduce the concept of Scientific literacy while identifying strategies that could enhance scientific learning at foundation stages of education. The conference served as a vital reminder of the prospects and challenges of ECE and the establishment of the Primary Education directorate and gave an opportunity for the Minister of Education to encourage participants on ideas on how to reform the Education Sector.
